Seoul: The first Internet addresses containing non-Latin characters from start to finish will soon be online thanks to today’s approval of the new Internationalized Domain Name Fast Track Process by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers board.

“The coming introduction of non-Latin characters represents the biggest technical change to the Internet since it was created four decades ago,” said ICANN chairman Peter Dengate Thrush. “Right now Internet address endings are limited to Latin characters – A to Z. But the Fast Track Process is the first step in bringing the 100,000 characters of the languages of the world online for domain names.” (continua leyendo…)

ICANN has authorized a bulk transfer of registrar Red Register Inc.’s domain names to DirectNIC Ltd., due to the de-accreditation of Red Register Inc.

The affected gTLD registries have taken steps to effect bulk transfers of Red Register’s names.

By this note, we would like to inform to the international community about the current situation in the ccTLD.HN, which is administrated by the RDS-HN , associated member of LACTLD , organization that inform us about this situation.

The current Honduran government has informed to ccTLD .HN that must hand over the ccTLD operation due to Article 79B of the Reglament of the Telecommunications Act (of the year 2002). This rule says that “CONATEL controls the regulation and administration of the domains and IP directions within the national territory. CONATEL will be able to take the necessary measures so that the administration of domains and IP addresses can be executed through from other public or private institutions, for which agreements will be signed and the corresponding regulations will be issued.” (continua leyendo…)

Three registrars have lost their accreditation.

South America Domains Ltd doing business as namefrog.com, Simply Named Inc (SimplyNamed.com) and Tahoe Domains Inc have not had their Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) renewed upon expiration for failure to comply with the requirements of the RAA.

On Friday, 24 July 2009, Lead Networks Domains Pvt. Ltd. (“Lead Networks”) began the process of commencing an arbitration proceeding with the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) challenging ICANN’s decision to allow the RAA to expire without renewal because of Lead Networks’ failure to comply with the requirements of its RAA http://www.icann.org/correspondence/burnette-to-malik-14jul09-en.pdf [PDF, 74K].

In its filing to initiate arbitration, Lead Networks requested that ICANN and the arbitration panel stay the non-renewal until an arbitration decision is rendered. Although Lead Networks allowed the RAA to expire before seeking to arbitrate, ICANN has determined that a temporary stay is warranted in this case to protect affected registrants and users. Lead Networks will be reinstated as a registrar effective Tuesday, 04 August 2009.

Guidance is provided below for registrants who may be affected by this arbitration action.

México, D.F. a 27 de Julio de 2009.- NIC México (Network Information Center México), la organización responsable de administrar los dominios con terminación .MX, anuncia que este 31 de julio vence el periodo de Pre-Registro del proceso de Reapertura de registro de dominios directamente bajo .MX. De esta forma, llegará a su fin el privilegio que tenían los titulares actuales de dominios bajo las diferentes clasificaciones de .MX (.COM.MX, .ORG.MX, .EDU.MX, .NET.MX, .GOB.MX), de solicitar su registro a través de los 180 Registrars Acreditados.

Es importante destacar que durante este proceso de Reapertura .MX, los clientes actuales de .MX han podido obtener sus dominios a un precio preferencial, lo cual representa un beneficio económico. A partir del 1 de septiembre se implementará un Esquema Especial de Precios por medio del cual la tarifa de registro de dominios directamente bajo .MX arrancará en los USD$ 1,000.00 dólares e irá decreciendo de forma gradual y periódica hasta llegar a USD$ 35.00 dólares el 31 de octubre. Posterior a la implementación de este esquema se establecerá la tarifa regular en USD$ 50 dólares.

De igual forma, NIC México confirma que los registros con otras terminaciones (.COM.MX, .ORG.MX, .EDU.MX, .NET.MX, .GOB.MX) no sufrirán incrementos en sus respectivas tarifas.

NIC México recomienda a todos los usuarios interesados en asegurar el nombre de sus dominios directamente bajo .MX, registrarlos antes del 31 de julio, aprovechando las tarifas preferenciales actuales y eliminando con esto la posibilidad de que otra persona o empresa lo registre y haga uso del mismo nombre.
